CATHAY PACIFIC
Six Decades of Cathay Pacific History Displayed at New SFO Airport Museum Exhibition
The origins and development of Cathay Pacific Airways are commemorated in a new museum exhibition exploring the airline’s sixty-plus years of history. Presented by San Francisco Airport Museums, Cathay Pacific Airways: Six Decades of Service is on view from April 16 to September 5, 2008 in the San Francisco Airport Commission Aviation Library and Louis A. Turpen Aviation Museum at San Francisco International Airport
The story of Cathay Pacific’s growth from a small, Hong Kong-based regional airline in 1946 to its current status as a major international carrier with 120 destinations—and a reputation for impeccable passenger service—is traced through the artifacts chosen for the exhibition. Over sixty-five historic photographs, examples of printed materials, and three-dimensional objects are featured. Cathay Pacific’s fleet history is portrayed in fifteen highly-detailed scale model aircraft from the Douglas DC-3 and Boeing jetliners to the Airbus A340. Flight attendant uniforms representing six decades of fashion capture the airline’s distinct style, while its commitment to elegance and exceptional cuisine is evident in the fine china and silver meal service wares created for specialized menus that are on display.
