WHY HONG KONG, WHY NOW? (April 6, 2006)

At a speaker luncheon held Thursday, April 6, 2006
at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles, Jack
Maisano, President, American Chamber of Commerce in
Hong Kong, discussed on business environment in Hong
Kong and how U.S. companies are doing there. This
event was jointly organized by the Hong Kong Association
of Southern California and Hong Kong Economic &
Trade Office, San Francisco, and supported by other
trade organizations.

In addition to overviewing the known advantages of
Hong Kong such as its reliable legal system, freely
convertible currency, well regulated banks and securities
markets, 21st century infrastructure, Jack Maisano
also shared the unique characteristic of how Hong
Kong continues to thrive in adversity both internally
and externally. As the China market is opening up
more and more, Hong Kong is no longer an island but
will continue to prosper with its fastest growing
motherland in the global marketplace.

A Certificate of Appreciation was
presented to Jack Maisano by Doris Cheung, director
of the Hong Kong Economic Trade Office in San Francisco
(right) and Raymond Cheng, president of the Hong
Kong Association of Southern California.

Jack Maisano closed his presentation by quoting the words
from James Baker, a former U.S. Secretary of State, "Hong
Kong's compelling values of the rule of law, and economic
opportunity - championed by its able, energetic and persistent
people - can (and I think will) influence China's future
development in a clear and positive way."
The American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AmCham)
is one of the largest American Chambers outside the US,
the largest international chamber in Hong Kong and the most
dynamic and influential international business organization
in the Asia-Pacific region. Its mission is to foster commerce
among the United States of America, Hong Kong and Mainland
China, and to enhance Hong Kong's stature as an international
business center.
Jack Maisano was appointed as the President of AmCham on
March 1, 2005. Since 2002, Jack has been the President of
China Institute in America, a New York-based not-for-profit
organization dedicated to bringing an appreciation of Chinese
culture to people in America through an understanding of
Chinese culture to people in America. Also in New York,
Jack was publisher of The Asian Wall Street Journal Weekly
edition, a Dow Jones publication going to American investors
focused on Asia.
