Annual Members Meeting and Joint Mixer with Industry
Manufacturers Council (Sept 2007)
The HKASC Annual Members' Meeting was held at the Pacific
Palms Resort and Conference Center in City of Industry on
Thursday, September 13, 2007. In addition to 294 rooms,
the Pacific Palms facility is also surrounded with 650 acres
of golf courses, swim and tennis center and regional park.
At the meeting, HKASC president Raymond Cheng highlighted
some of HKASC's activities in the past year from various
business and cultural events, to winning of the Outstanding
Initiative Award at the Hong Kong Forum 2006. At this year's
Hong Kong Forum, HKASC will be taking part with a record
number of some 70 participants. HKASC is one of the largest
Hong Kong associations in the world with over 600 individual
members. Along with nine other Hong Kong associations located
throughout the U.S.A., HKASC is also a Member Organization
of the National US Hong Kong Business Association. Raymond
Cheng also thanked all of the HKASC board directors, chairs
of the Orange County Chapter and San Diego Chapter, and
especially Hong Kong Trade Development Council for support
of programs and activities organized by HKASC.
Treasurer John Gilbaugh was pleased to report that HKASC
remained to be healthy and in good standing financially.
Raymond Cheng was re-elected to lead the HKASC as president
for another two-years term. Twelve HKASC board directors
were also re-elected to serve another term.

The new HKASC Board also welcomed a new staff member
of the HKASC Secretariat, Maggie Chu. HKASC members
were encouraged to contact either Senior Manager Ranee
Ma or Manager Maggic Chu to find out more about HKASC's
upcoming events, advertising opportunities and other

The new HKASC Board of Directors and the 100 guests attending
the event were welcomed by Donald Sachs, Executive Director
of the Industry Manufacturers Council and other officials
representing City of Industry.

was conducted by PCCW Global VP Enterprise Rex Stover, HKASC
Director Wilson Tang, City of Industry Executive Director
Donald Sachs, and Don Leung of Cathay Pacific Airways.
HKASC members also enjoyed networking opportunities with
their City of Industry business counterparts. The City of
Industry is located within the core of a 40 mile radius
encompassing Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire
with easy access to four freeways. Some of the key tenants
in the manufacturing sector are Bentley Prince Street, Interbath,
Interbath Inc., California Steel and Tube, Robert H. Peterson
Company, Paragon Trade Brands Inc., Teledyne, Reuland Electric
Co., Sunrider, Viewsonic, Owens & Minor. Main retail
companies are Costco, Fry's Electronics, Home Depot, Mervyns,
Sam's Club, Sears, Target and WAL MART. Following the addition
of new tenants such as Williamsonoma, Cisco, and Fedex,
the area is shifting from manufacturers-based to service-companies-based.
Among the estimated 23,000 businesses, about 40% are Chinese-owned
including the renowed authentic Chinese food sauces and
condiments manufacturer Lee Kum Kee.
