Joint Mixer with Industry Manufacturers Council (Sept 2004)
The annual joint mixer with Industry Manufacturers Council was
held on September 22 at the Pacific Palms Conference Resort in
City of Industry.
At his Opening Remarks, Mr. Donald Sachs, Executive Director,
Industry Manufacturers Council, shared information about the region.
Twenty years ago, the business community used to be 80% manufacturing
and there were only 145 Chinese owned or operated businesses ten
years ago. Although much of the manufacturing has now been transferred
to Mexico and China, the area has been experiencing rapid growth
in computers, shoes, clothing as well as food processing. Nowadays,
one-third of the businesses in City of Industry was made up with
over 725 Chinese owned or operated businesses. Numerous visiting
delegations to the United States have also been making stops in
City of Industry for a briefing on the business climate of the
area.
HKASC president Raymond Cheng also outlined the Association's upcoming
programs, development plan and introduced the 2004/2005 Board of
Directors and members of the newly formed San
Diego Committe to the City of Industry business community.
In addition to networking opportunities, the guests at the mixer
also enjoyed a spectacular sunset view from the Pavilion located
on the upper level of the Pacific Palms, and some of the lucky
ones even won prizes such as Roxy Trading's abalone gift boxes,
a Lee Kum Kee goodies bag, and OOCL's bottle opener gift set.
The luckiest winner went home with a round trip Los Angeles /
Hong Kong air ticket donated by Cathay Pacific Airways.
The event was sponsored by Asian Business Association of Los
Angeles, Asian Food Trade Association, Foreign Trade Association
of Southern California, Singapore American Business Association
of Southern California, Southern California Chinese Lawyers Associations
and World Trade Center Association of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
The Annual General Members' Meeting also took place prior to
the joint mixer.
