HK Finance Secretary Addresses Economic Experts in Japan

Frederick Ma, Hong Kong's Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, addressed a group of Japanese economic experts on September 27 during a visit to Tokyo. Highlighting Hong Kong's strategic and financial strengths, Ma called for Japanese companies to take advantage of Hong Kong's vast economic opportunities, from its position as a gateway to China to its status as an international financial center.

Citing Hong Kong's world-class infrastructure, well-developed markets and open regulatory system as forming an ideal foundation for business, Ma also emphasized the advantageous position of Hong Kong as a platform for accessing mainland Chinese markets. Ma advocated Hong Kong as the premier capital formation center for mainland enterprises, and added that the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) and the launch of renmenbi (RMB) personal banking business would provide economic incentive for doing business in China.
