Almost 500 members, friends and guests of the HKASC celebrated the Year of the Ox at the Hilton Los Angeles/Univesal City Hotel on Saturday, February 7, 2009.

As mentioned in Governor Schwarzenegger's congratulatory message, "California is home to a fantastic mix of people and traditions, and the Chinese-American community is an important part of our diversity. ... The New Year is the most important of Chinese holidays, and is celebrated by people around the world."

This special occasion was attended by distinguished guests including Ms. Shu Luomei representing the Consulate General of the People's Repubic of China, California State Controller John Chiang, State Board of Equalization Member Judy Chu, Assemblymen 49th District Mike Eng, Mayor of the City of Walnut Jaoquin Lim, Hong Kong Econonmic & Trade Office San Francisco Director Doris Cheung, Hong Kong Trade Develolpment Council Regional Director of the Americas Stephen Wong.

The guests received New Year good wishes and lai-see packets from Miss Chinatown of Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles Lindsay Louie and her court,

and enjoyed spectacular performances by the Silk Sisters, and singers Ayana Haviv, Omar Crook, Tali Tadmor, and Roger Aquino.
