"Impact of New Federal and State Safety Legislation on the Consumer Products, Toy, and Furniture Industries" + HKTDC Service Workshop
A special presentation by Mr. Leeton Lee of Specialized Technology Resources, Inc. Mr. Lee was formerly legal counsel for the Walt Disney Company and Sega GameWorks. The new Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (CPSIA), signed by President Bush in August, is considered the most comprehensive overhaul of U.S. consumer product safety laws since the 1970's. The proposed Toy Industry Association "Toy Safety Certification Program" (TSCP) will be a mandatory certification program for the toy and children's products industry. The new CARB Rule for reducing formaldehyde emissions in composite wood products will apply to many furniture and other wood products sold in California. A workshop about the services offered by HKTDC including business matching service, free supplier referral, online sourcing, trade publications, and trade fairs in Hong Kong will follow. Free admission to the presentation and workshop.

Attendees are invited to join a networking mixer after the workshop at a special rate of $15.

Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair 2008

The Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair has been running for over a quarter of a century now - the 2008 fair will be the 27th edition. Each year it enhances its reputation by creating the ideal environment in which business can flourish. In 2007, 800 exhibitors came from 18 countries & regions to show off their latest timepieces, including group pavilions from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and Korea. Exhibitors knew they would meet international decision-makers and they were not disappointed. A total of 16,385 trade visitors attended, from 100 countries & regions.

Hong Kong, with its own important watch industry and its superb supporting services, is the perfect location for this fair. From January to August 2007, Hong Kong's total exports of watches & clocks were already up 4.8% over the same period in 2006, reaching more than US$3.9 billion. (More Information)

Hong Kong Electronics Fair 2008 (Autumn Edition)

On 13-16 October, 2008, Hong Kong is the dynamic heart of the electronics world as the industry gathers for the Autumn Edition of the Hong Kong Electronics Fair, now in its 28th year. This is the largest fair of its kind in Asia, and the second largest in the world, with over 2,480 exhibitors at the last fair. Critical mass guarantees a huge number of buyers - in 2007 the Autumn Edition was visited by over 58,000 trade buyers.

Hong Kong International Lighting Fair

The record-breaking performance of the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair speaks for itself. As the top lighting sourcing event in Asia and the second largest in the world, it offers the perfect platform for business to shine. Exhibitors will find themselves in the limelight as buyers come from around the world looking for new and exciting products.

The fair enjoyed its highest-ever total of exhibitors in 2007 ¡V 1,344 exhibitors from 31 countries and regions, including group pavilions from the Chinese mainland and Taiwan. Together, the booths attracted 27,899 trade buyers from 133 countries and regions.

The impressive numbers of visitors were drawn in by the comprehensive array of products on show, ranging from the creative and decorative to the highly technical and advanced. Reaffirming Hong Kong¡¦s position as the premier souring hub for lighting products in Asia, about 66% of the buyers came from outside Hong Kong. (More Information)

Sports Source Asia

Sport Source Asia raced away to a brilliant start with its first edition in 2007. Around 6,500 buyers came to Asia¡¦s first trade sourcing show for sporting goods, equipment and apparel, over half of them from outside Hong Kong. These buyers represented a comprehensive portfolio of quality sourcing professionals from 90 countries and regions. (More Information)

The Hong Kong International Building and Decoration Materials & Hardware Fair 2008, Hong Kong International Furniture Fair 2008, and Eco Expo Asia (an international trade fair on environmental protection) are held concurrently.

Hong Kong Optical Fair 2008

Date: 6-8 November 2008

All eyes turn to Hong Kong each year in November for the Hong Kong Optical Fair. As one of the most professional and lively industry events in the region, it draws exhibitors and buyers from all over the world. For 16 years it has ranked, justifiably, as the industry's first choice in Asia.

In 2007, over 540 exhibitors from 22 countries and regions participated and 10,594 buyers from 97 countries and regions came to do business with them. 8th World SME Expo

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play an extremely important role in today's global economies. A vibrant SME sector contributes to job creation, and has always been a strong engine of economic growth. The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) organises an annual exhibition to help SMEs explore international market opportunities - The 8th World SME Expo. The event is a platform for SME service providers to showcase their services and business solutions for the unique needs of SMEs. It is also an international SME marketplace for networking, business matching, and exchange of ideas and inspiration. Both private enterprises and public bodies are invited to exhibit at the event. Hong Kong Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2009

Date: 12-15 January 2009
Place: Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre

There's no better way of getting business off to a good footing in the new year than by taking part in Asia's biggest garment and fashion event ¡V Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter .Hong Kong is at the heart of Asia's fashion business, a fact that's underlined by the city's strong trade performance. Hong Kong's total exports of clothing and clothing accessories grew to over US$28 billion in 2007, with exports to the top two markets ¡V the US and the EU ¡V growing by 1.3% and 6.4% respectively. The 2009 event will be a special one, marking the 40th edition of Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter. Over the decades the fair has continually built on its success and strong market position, with a total of 1,490 exhibitors from 20 countries and regions taking part in the 2008 fair.

Education & Careers Expo 2009

Education has for decades been key to Hong Kong’SSuccess. Generations have understood that striving for excellent and relevant qualifications helps people flourish, securing the future for themselves and their families. This has stood Hong Kong in good stead, where a well-educated task force has been instrumental in its economic prosperity.

It is no surprise, therefore, that the Education & Careers Expo, with its focus on education, training and career advancement, has become a major event over the years. For the past 17 years, it has been attracting increasing numbers of visitors, all eager to learn more about how local and outside Hong Kong academic institutions and employers can help them in their careers. In 2007, the fair drew 190,000 visitors, comprising students, job seekers and others endeavouring to upgrade their skills. Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the Expo is the premier event of its kind in Hong Kong. (More Information)
